What is the Shabbos Project?
The Shabbos Project is a unique, international grassroots Jewish identity movement that unites all Jews to keep one full Shabbat together. The idea originated last year in South Africa, where the majority of the country’s diverse Jewish community joined together to observe a single Shabbat, most for the first time in their lives.
The International Shabbos Project will take place on the Shabbat of 24/25 October 2014in more than 170 cities and 30 countries around the globe.
By experiencing the magic of Shabbat just once, we can rejuvenate family and community life, restore Jewish pride and identity, and build Jewish unity across the world.
Ways to join:
Option 1: From Sundown to Stars Up
Endeavour to keep Shabbat in its entirety. In all of its detail and splendour as set out in the Code of Jewish Law.
Option 2: Invite and Gift
Spread the gift of Shabbat with a fellow Jew, friend or neighbor, who does not as of yet celebrate. Host them for Shabbat dinner, invite them to come light candles or attend services with you at Chabad.
Option 3: Celebrate with Family
Sit down with your family on Friday night, women and girls should light candles before sunset, set a beautiful Shabbat table with wine and challah, and feast the night away, detached from all technological devices, in celebration of the gift given to all Jews.
Option 4: Pray Away!
Attend services and prayers at your Chabad center, spend some quality time with your Rabbi on his turf, enjoy the meaningful community weekly celebration and prayer.
Option 5: Light up the Night
Light Shabbat Candles before Sunset on Friday, bring peace and meaning to your home and life!
